Psychology

Instructors in the University of the Ozarks' Social Sciences discipline are committed to teaching, and their commitment doesn't end when the classroom door closes.... In the Ozarks Psychology department, learning isn't only for the classroom!

For many Psychology students, the classroom instruction they receive is augmented by research experience. Individual research projects are an integral part of the Psychology major. Ozarks Psychology students have received NASA grants for research into virtual reality, robotics and biofeedback. Affiliations with the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium(ASGC) provide opportunities for students to attend conferences and interact with others studying in their field. Under the tutelage of our Psychology professors, five Ozarks students have successfully submitted research proposals for grants from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) through ASGC, something no other undergraduate program has done. These students studied such topics as The Effects of Delayed Feedback on Performance (Clayton Manning, 2000), Small Group Interactions: A Study of Group Composition Effects in an Isolated Environment (Cara Holmes, 2000), and The Relationship of Team Problem Solving Effectiveness and Birth Order (Rebecca Walls, 1997).

All of this personal attention and hands-on experience is a big reason why Ozarks' Psychology students are consistently admitted to some of the country's most prestigious professional and graduate schools!
