Theatre Scholarships

Full tuition scholarships and shop assistantships are now available!

Scholarships in Theatre are offered in the following areas:

An audition/interview combined with a campus visit is required for scholarship applicants. Students are encouraged to schedule the campus visit with a minimum of one week's notice. Students should prepare two contrasting, one-minute monologues and/or a design/technical portfolio presentation. Theatre scholarships cannot be awarded until the student has applied to, and been accepted by, the university.

Theatre scholarships may be combined with other forms of financial aid, including theatre workstudy. The Pittman and Farmer awards offer additional scholarships for outstanding majors in our program and are awarded annually.

How can I obtain a theatre scholarship?

Start by scheduling a campus visit online through the Admission Office or by calling toll-free 1-800-264-8636

How do I prepare for the audition/interview?

If your primary interest in acting, you should memorize, prepare, and rehearse two monologues lasting no more than one minute each.  The two monologues should be contrasting pieces (serious and comic).  The monologues should be taken from an American play written in the last 50 years.

If your primary interest in design or technical theatre, you should bring photographs or drawings of the sets you have constructed or designed, the costumes you have made or designed, and/or lighting and props you have designed or made. Any art projects you may have which demonstrate your drawing, sculpting, or painting skills should be provided as well.

All auditioning/interviewing students should bring a typed resume of all theatre experience and two letters of recommendation from teachers who have worked with you in theatre.

How long with the actual audition/interview take?

We need at least 30 minutes to see your work, talk with you, ask you questions, and answer your questions.  You are welcome to visit theatre classes or attend any scheduled rehearsal.

Who will be present at my audition/interview?

The theatre faculty: Dr. Pat Farmer, Walton Professor of Theatre and Mr. Bruce Brown, Professor of Theatre.

Will I be able to meet the theatre majors?

Absolutely!  We encourage you to talk with our students.
