New Student Orientation 2008

August 21-25, 2008

This site is the first stop for you, our newest members of the Ozarks community. Whether you're a first time college student, a parent, or an experienced transfer student, we hope you will find answers to all your questions here.

Orientation is required for all first-time college students. Orientation activities will begin on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 and continue through Monday, August 25th, 2008. Residence halls will be open for move-in beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21st. We have compiled a list of items that we think will help you decide what to bring and what to leave at home. You can register for orientation online, giving you one less thing to do before you arrive on campus. Also, to help guide you through the orientation process, we have created a unique orientation handbook, which is a valuable resource for both parents and new students.

On Monday, August 18, 2008, the new Jones Learning Center students will move on campus prior to the "university-wide orientation" to begin a three-day orientation program called "Jump Start." Their program gives the new JLC students plenty of time to get acquainted with their new surroundings and the resources of the learning center!

We realize that transfer students with over 24 credits who have experienced orientation at another college often feel that their attendance at orientation is not needed; we hope that you are planning to participate fully in orientation. However, we have also created a single day Transfer Student Orientation on Monday, August 25th, in order to facilitate your transition to the University of the Ozarks. This orientation session is only available to students who have 24 transfer credit hours and are not enrolled in the freshman level critical inquiry class.

Your going off to college can be difficult for mom and dad, whether you live in the residence halls or continue to live at home. So, on Friday, August 22nd and Saturday, August 23rd, 2008, we will offer several opportunities for parents to speak with upper-level students, faculty, and administrators. Also, as both the new students and the parents may be unfamiliar with much of the surrounding community, we have compiled a list of community resources, which provides information about restaurants, banking, doctors, and much, much more!
